Standing in the front row next to Adjutant General W.H. Mabry (striking a Napoleonic pose), are four of the most famous captains in Ranger History: John R. Huges, J.A. Brooks, Bill (W.J.) McDonald and John H. Rogers

This photo was taken in 1896 in El Paso, Texas. The Rangers had gathered to stop a prize fight between Bob Fitzimmons and Pete Maher scheduled for El Paso. The Rangers chased the fighters to Langtry, Texas where the fight took place on the Mexican side of the Rio Grande river. All the Rangers could do is watch the fight.
