The
Former Texas Rangers Foundation is pleased to announce legendary country music
artist Ray Price to serve the headliner for Silver Stars & Six Guns
2008: A Gathering of Friends of the Texas Rangers, the
foundation’s annual gala scheduled for September 26th, 2009 at the Inn of the Hills Conference Resort in Kerrville. The Saturday night gala, which
benefits the Former Texas Rangers Foundation whose mission is to preserve the
history of the Texas Rangers, features dinner, Texas-size grand and silent
auctions, Texas Rangers’ memorabilia and Ray Price performing live in concert.
With a career that has spanned nearly sixty years, Ray Price began having Top Five country hits in 1952 with “Talk to Your Heart” and “Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes.” In 1956, with his classic “Crazy Arms,” Price created a new sound, incorporating both an acoustic and an electric bass to lay down a 4/4, dance-friendly shuffle rhythm that worked with Price’s imposing tenor and harmonized choruses. The sound became known as “The Ray Price Beat.” The Country Music Hall of Famer, who toured with the legendary Hank Williams, scored 108 chart hits including eight chart-toppers and two dozen Top Five classics. In 2003, the Academy of Country Music presented the versatile singer with the Pioneer Award.
“To bring an entertainer of the caliber of Ray Price to our event is very exciting,” said Joe Davis, Former Texas Rangers Foundation President. “His unique style and legendary hits are sure to be a crowd pleaser. We look forward to an outstanding concert”
Price will perform at the Saturday night gala which also includes grand and silent auctions featuring star-studded items for collectors of Texas Rangers artifacts and memorabilia, fine Western art and exotic hunting excursions. With auctioneer Tooter Trees leading the way, this year’s auctions offer some of the most prestigious items ever including:
a “back-up” pistol personalized and carried by Senior Texas Ranger Captain H.R. “Lefty” Block; a pair of custom-made Colt Revolvers made especially for the event by Colt Manufacturing; a Sturm Ruger Mini-14 Caliber .223 rifle carried by Texas Ranger Bill Gunn; a West Texas deer hunt with Rangers as your guide; and renowned artist Richard O. Cook’s bronze entitled “The Frontier Battalion”.
Available for advance, sealed bids by contacting the Foundation, these unique items along with many others are poised to make this year’s auction both memorable and exciting.
